Morning Visitor by StephenCrowe Morning Visitor by StephenCrowe
'The crowds thin, and the open spaces of the market place divide into narrow cobbled streets that climb steeply from the docks, as the Chéneschal rider follows its course through unfamiliar, alien territory.'

Hi there - it's been a long time! This is a piece I completed last year, for inclusion in the White Cloud Worlds anthology. It's a first look at the city in which the bulk of my story will take place; a port city of steep narrow streets with dwellings and commercial buildings stacked up on top of each other.

Cheers :)

EDIT: Hi everyone - I'm so grateful for having my piece 'Morning Visitor' selected as my second Daily Deviation! Thanks very much DA

As some of you may be aware through the news, or through personal contact, here in New Zealand we have recently suffered another severe earthquake. Once again our beautiful city of Christchurch has been brought to its knees - this time by a shallow 6.3M quake on 22 February 2011, beneath the port town of Lyttelton, just 10 km south of Christchurch's city centre. There has been major, major damage to the city, and worse – serious injury and significant loss of life.

In order to recover from this tragedy, Christchurch is going to need the rest of New Zealand's support for a long time to come, and perhaps from further afield as well. If any of you fantastically Deviant Artists out there were able to contribute a little money to this disaster relief effort, that would be truly amazing and incredibly appreciated. Here's a link to the New Zealand Red Cross website:

My thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of those lost in this tragedy, both from New Zealand and abroad.

Thanks,
Stephen.

A moody place! The sea spray and the docks with the sun light washing over stuff fits wonderfully! The details like the lamp, the rust, and the birds in the distance give it a sense of realism!

Brilliant! Makes me want to write. I love beasts that look very similar to actual animals but aren't.

One thing, though--the rear leg of the beast comes forward in space a bit too much, I think because it's so dark; if there was just a bit more contrast to the front leg I think that would fix it, or if the marks on the back leg weren't quite as sharp.
